Pair of Brown Flower Patches Iron Sew On Clothes Jeans Bag Flowers Patch Badge
Add a beautiful decorative finish to clothing, bags and accessories with this pair of brown embroidered flower patches. Featuring an intricate floral arrangement of roses, leaves and stems, these patches combine rich chocolate brown shades with warm bronze, beige and golden thread details to create an elegant, slightly vintage-inspired appearance.
The patches are designed as a coordinating mirrored pair, with one facing left and the other facing right. This makes them particularly attractive when positioned on opposite sides of a jacket, pair of jeans, bag, dress or other garment. Alternatively, they can be separated and used individually on different projects.
Each patch measures approximately 6.9 cm Width x 11.8 cm Height.
The detailed embroidery gives the flowers and leaves plenty of texture, while the contrasting thread highlights the petals, foliage and smaller decorative features. Their warm neutral colouring makes them easy to combine with denim, black, cream, beige, khaki and many other fabric colours.
Ideal for Customising Clothes and Accessories
These embroidered flower patches are a simple way to give an existing item a completely different appearance. Instead of replacing a plain or older garment, add decorative embroidery and create something individual.
They are suitable for many different craft and clothing projects, including:
- Jeans and denim trousers
- Denim jackets and waistcoats
- Shirts and blouses
- T-shirts and sweatshirts
- Dresses and skirts
- Trousers and shorts
- Coats and jackets
- Handbags and tote bags
- Backpacks and fabric bags
- Fabric hats and accessories
- Craft and sewing projects
The patches can also provide an attractive way to cover a small hole, stain, mark or worn section of suitable fabric. Rather than simply hiding the damaged area, the floral embroidery can turn it into a decorative feature.
Creative Ways to Use Your Flower Patches
Because you receive two coordinating patches, there are plenty of ways to experiment with their position.
For a classic symmetrical look, place one patch on each side of the front of a denim jacket. They can also look striking positioned on either side of a neckline, collar or the lower front corners of a garment.
Try placing the pair down the outer sides of jeans or trousers to create decorative floral leg detailing. They can also be positioned around pockets, with one patch on each back pocket or alongside the front pockets.
For jackets, one patch could be placed on the chest while the second is used on a sleeve, shoulder or back. Alternatively, arrange both together on the back of a jacket to create a larger embroidered floral display.
On bags and backpacks, the patches can be positioned symmetrically on either side or grouped together to create a prominent floral centrepiece. They are also useful for refreshing an older bag that is still perfectly usable but could benefit from a new look.
You don't have to use both patches on the same item. Use one to customise a favourite pair of jeans and the other on a matching bag, jacket or accessory.
How to Iron On the Patches
Before applying the patches, check that the fabric is suitable for ironing at the temperature required. Delicate fabrics, waterproof materials, coated fabrics and some synthetic materials may not tolerate high heat. If you are unsure, sewing the patches on is the safer option.
Make sure the garment or accessory is clean, dry and placed on a firm, flat, heat-resistant surface. Avoid using a heavily padded ironing board if possible, as a solid surface can make it easier to apply firm, even pressure.
First, decide exactly where you would like the patches to sit. Take a little time arranging them before applying heat, particularly if you are using both patches together and want them to appear symmetrical.
Preheat the fabric briefly with the iron to remove any moisture and help prepare the surface.
Place the patch in the desired position with the embroidered design facing upwards and the adhesive backing against the fabric.
Cover the entire patch with a thin cotton cloth, pressing cloth or similar heat-resistant fabric. This protects the embroidery from direct contact with the hot iron.
Set the iron to a suitable medium-to-high temperature for the fabric. Do not use steam.
Press the iron firmly down over the covered patch for approximately 20–30 seconds. Rather than continuously moving the iron backwards and forwards as you would when ironing clothes, apply firm, steady pressure so that the heat can activate the adhesive evenly.
For a larger patch such as this, you may need to work across different sections to ensure the entire backing receives sufficient heat, paying particular attention to the edges and narrow sections of the design.
Where the garment allows, turn it inside out and apply heat to the reverse of the patch area for approximately another 20–30 seconds. This helps the heat reach the adhesive from the fabric side and can improve the bond.
Allow the patch and garment to cool completely without moving or pulling at the patch. The adhesive continues to set as it cools.
Once cool, gently check around the edges. If any section has not bonded properly, cover it again with the cloth and repeat the heating process for a short period.
Avoid washing the item immediately after application. Giving the adhesive time to fully settle before washing can help achieve a stronger attachment.
How to Sew On the Patches
Although the patches have an iron-on backing, they can also be sewn on. Sewing is particularly useful for fabrics that cannot safely withstand high temperatures and for items that will receive frequent wear, movement or washing.
Position the patch exactly where you would like it and temporarily hold it in place using sewing pins or a few temporary stitches.
Choose a thread that matches the brown outer edge of the patch if you want the stitches to be discreet. Alternatively, contrasting thread can be used if you would like the stitching to become part of the design.
Using a hand-sewing needle, begin from the reverse side of the fabric so that the knot remains hidden. Make small stitches around the embroidered border of the patch, passing the needle through the garment and close to the outer edge of the embroidery.
Continue working carefully around the entire shape. Because the floral design contains curves, leaves and narrower sections, smaller stitches can make it easier to follow the outline neatly.
Once you have sewn all the way around, securely knot the thread on the reverse side of the garment.
For items that will experience heavier use, such as jeans, jackets, backpacks or bags, you can combine both methods: iron the patch into position first and then add several stitches around the edges. The adhesive keeps the patch neatly positioned while the stitching provides additional security.
Choosing Between Ironing and Sewing
Ironing is a convenient choice for many everyday cotton and denim garments and provides a neat finish without visible stitching.
Sewing is preferable when working with delicate, heat-sensitive, textured or heavily used fabrics. It is also a good choice if you may want to remove or reposition the patch at a later date.
For frequently worn or regularly washed clothing, using the iron-on backing together with additional stitching around the edges can provide the most secure attachment.
Always check the care instructions of the garment before applying heat.
Washing and Care
Once attached, treat the decorated garment with a little extra care to help preserve both the embroidery and attachment.
Where possible, wash at a moderate temperature and turn the garment inside out before washing. Avoid unnecessarily harsh washing cycles. Allow the item to dry naturally where practical.
Check the edges occasionally, particularly after repeated washing. If an ironed edge begins to lift, it can normally be reheated using a protective cloth or secured with a few small stitches.
