How to Iron On

Iron-On Instructions

1. Make sure the garment is clean, dry and free from creases where the patch will be positioned.
2. Lay the garment on a firm, flat, heat-resistant surface.
3. Arrange the patch in your chosen position. If you are using both patches together, position the complete pair first so you can check the spacing and alignment.
4. Heat your iron to a medium-to-high temperature appropriate for the fabric. Do not use steam.
5. Cover the patch with a thin cotton cloth, pressing cloth or clean tea towel. Do not place the hot iron directly onto the embroidery.
6. Press firmly down over the covered patch for approximately 20–30 seconds. Avoid continually moving the iron backwards and forwards.
7. If the garment allows, turn it inside out and apply heat to the reverse side for approximately another 20–30 seconds.
8. Leave the garment lying flat and allow the patch to cool completely before moving or testing it.
9. Once cool, gently check the edges.
10. If an area has not bonded fully, cover the patch again and carefully repeat the heating process for a short period.

Iron temperatures and application times can vary according to the garment, fabric thickness and iron being used.

For jeans, jackets and other frequently worn or washed clothing, adding several stitches around the patch after ironing can provide extra security.

How to Sew On

The patches can also be sewn directly onto your garment or accessory. Sewing is particularly useful for heavier denim, frequently washed clothing and materials that should not be ironed.

You can attach them by hand or using a suitable sewing machine.

Hand Sewing Instructions

1. Place the patch in your preferred position.
2. Temporarily secure it using pins, fabric clips or loose holding stitches.
3. Choose a strong thread. A dark or medium blue thread can blend particularly well with the embroidered border.
4. Thread your needle and tie a secure knot.
5. Begin from the reverse side of the garment so the knot remains hidden.
6. Work small stitches around the embroidered outer edge of the patch.
7. Follow the shape of the flowers, leaves and stems rather than simply stitching a straight line around the overall area.
8. Pay particular attention to the narrower leaves and ends of the stems so they lie flat against the garment.
9. Continue until the entire patch feels securely attached.
10. Finish on the reverse of the fabric with a strong knot and trim away the excess thread.

For thick denim, using a denim or heavyweight sewing needle can make the job considerably easier.
