How to Iron On

Before applying the patch, make sure the fabric is clean, completely dry and suitable for ironing. Delicate fabrics or materials that cannot withstand high temperatures should be sewn on instead.

Position the patch exactly where you would like it with the adhesive side facing down against the fabric. Cover the entire patch with a thin cotton cloth or a sheet of baking parchment to protect the embroidery from direct contact with the iron.

Set your iron to a medium-high cotton setting, approximately 150–170°C, and make sure the steam is switched off. Press firmly over the patch for approximately 30–45 seconds, applying even pressure across the whole design. Keep the iron relatively still rather than continuously moving it backwards and forwards.

If possible, turn the garment inside out and press the reverse side directly behind the patch for a further 20–30 seconds. Heating the patch from both sides can help the adhesive form a stronger bond with the fabric.

Allow the patch to cool completely before touching it or checking the edges. Once cool, gently check that all areas are securely attached. If an edge has not fully bonded, cover it again and apply heat for another 10–15 seconds.

For clothing that will be washed frequently, or items such as jackets and bags that receive regular use, sewing around the edge after ironing is recommended for additional security.

How to Sew On

Sewing provides a strong, long-lasting attachment and is also suitable for fabrics that cannot safely be ironed.

Place the patch in your chosen position and temporarily secure it with pins or fabric clips. Choose a thread that blends with the cream embroidered border for a discreet finish.

Starting from the reverse side of the fabric, sew around the outer embroidered edge using small, evenly spaced stitches. Keep the stitches close to the border and make sure the patch remains flat as you work around the design. Once the entire patch is securely attached, tie the thread firmly on the reverse side and trim away any excess.

The patches can also be attached using a sewing machine. A straight stitch or narrow zigzag stitch around the outer edge works well.

Care Instructions

After ironing, allow at least 24 hours before washing to give the adhesive time to set properly. Wash on a gentle cycle where possible and avoid bleach, harsh detergents and excessive heat. Air drying is recommended.

When ironing the garment afterwards, avoid placing a hot iron directly onto the embroidery. Iron from the reverse side or cover the patch with a protective cotton cloth.
