How to Iron On

Before applying, make sure the item is clean, completely dry and suitable for ironing. Fabrics that cannot withstand high temperatures should be sewn rather than ironed.

Position the patch with the adhesive backing facing down against the fabric. Once you are happy with the placement, cover the patch with a thin cotton cloth or a sheet of baking parchment. This protects the embroidery from direct contact with the iron.

Set your iron to a medium-high cotton setting of approximately 150–170°C and make sure the steam is switched off. Press the iron firmly over the patch for approximately 30–45 seconds. Keep the iron relatively still rather than moving it backwards and forwards, applying firm and even pressure across the whole patch.

If possible, turn the garment inside out and iron the fabric directly behind the patch for a further 20–30 seconds. This helps the heat reach the adhesive from both sides.

Allow the patch and fabric to cool completely before checking the bond. Do not pull or move the patch while the adhesive is still hot. Once cool, gently check around the edges. If any area has not fully bonded, cover it again and apply heat for another 10–15 seconds.

For clothing that will be washed regularly, or items such as bags and jackets that receive frequent use, we recommend adding a few stitches around the edge for extra security.

How to Sew On

Sewing is an excellent alternative for fabrics that are unsuitable for ironing and provides a particularly strong, long-lasting attachment.

First, position the patch and secure it temporarily with pins or fabric clips. Thread a needle with a colour that matches the grey embroidered border for a discreet finish, or choose a contrasting thread if you would like the stitching to become part of the design.

Starting from the reverse side of the fabric, sew around the outer embroidered edge using small, evenly spaced stitches. Keep the stitches close to the border so that the patch sits neatly and securely against the fabric. Continue around the complete patch before tying the thread securely on the reverse side.

The patches can also be attached using a sewing machine. A straight stitch or narrow zigzag stitch around the embroidered edge works well, provided the item can be comfortably positioned beneath the machine.

Care Instructions

After ironing, allow at least 24 hours before washing to give the adhesive time to set fully. Washing on a gentle cycle is recommended, and excessive heat or harsh detergents should be avoided. Air drying can help prolong the life of both the embroidery and adhesive.

If the garment needs ironing in the future, iron it from the reverse side where possible or cover the patch with a protective cotton cloth before applying heat.
