How to Iron On

Before applying the patch, make sure the fabric is clean, completely dry and suitable for ironing. Delicate materials or fabrics that cannot tolerate high temperatures should be sewn instead.

Place the patch in your chosen position with the adhesive side facing down against the fabric. Cover the entire patch with a thin cotton cloth or sheet of baking parchment to protect the embroidery from direct contact with the iron.

Set the iron to a medium-high cotton setting, approximately 150–170°C, and make sure the steam is switched off. Press firmly over the patch for approximately 30–45 seconds, applying even pressure and keeping the iron relatively still rather than moving it backwards and forwards.

If possible, turn the garment inside out and press the reverse side directly behind the patch for another 20–30 seconds. Heating from both sides can help the adhesive form a stronger bond with the fabric.

Allow the patch to cool completely before touching or testing it. Once cool, gently check around the edges. If any part has not fully adhered, cover the patch again and apply heat to that area for a further 10–15 seconds.

For frequently washed clothing or items that receive a lot of use, we recommend adding a few stitches around the embroidered edge after ironing for additional security.

How to Sew On

Sewing is a great option if you want a particularly secure attachment or are decorating a material that cannot safely be ironed.

Position the patch carefully and temporarily hold it in place using pins or fabric clips. Choose a thread that blends with the embroidered border for a discreet finish, then begin sewing from the reverse side of the fabric.

Work around the outer edge using small, evenly spaced stitches, keeping your stitching close to the embroidered border. Make sure the patch remains flat as you work your way around the design. Once the entire patch is secure, finish with a strong knot on the reverse side and trim away the excess thread.

The patches can also be attached with a sewing machine using a straight stitch or narrow zigzag stitch around the outer embroidered edge.

Care Instructions

After ironing, leave the patches for at least 24 hours before washing to allow the adhesive to set properly. A gentle wash cycle is recommended, and harsh detergents, bleach and excessive heat should be avoided. Air drying is preferable where possible.

When ironing the garment in the future, avoid placing a hot iron directly onto the embroidery. Iron from the reverse side or cover the patch with a protective cotton cloth.
