Pair of Blue Flower Patches – Iron On or Sew On Embroidered Floral Patches
Give clothing, accessories and craft projects a beautiful decorative finish with this Pair of Blue Flower Patches. Featuring an elaborate floral design in attractive shades of blue and pale blue with gold-coloured embroidered detailing, these large appliqué patches are ideal for transforming plain garments or adding an individual touch to something already in your wardrobe.
Each patch features a prominent embroidered flower surrounded by smaller flowers, decorative leaves, curved stems and floral detailing. The different shades of blue create depth throughout the design, while the fine gold-coloured thread outlining parts of the flowers adds an attractive contrasting finish.
The two patches have complementary mirrored designs, making them particularly suitable for symmetrical placement on clothing. Position one on either side of a neckline, skirt, dress, shirt or jacket, or use the two patches separately across different projects.
Size
You will receive 2 Blue Flower Patches.
Each individual patch measures approximately:
7.7 cm Width × 11.9 cm Height
These are generously sized floral patches, making them ideal when you want the embroidery to become a noticeable decorative feature rather than a small embellishment.
Perfect for Customising Clothing
These versatile embroidered patches can be used on many different garments and fabric accessories, including T-shirts, dresses, skirts, shirts, blouses, jackets, jeans, denim clothing, tops, costumes, bags, handbags, backpacks and fabric craft projects.
The mirrored design provides plenty of possibilities for creative placement. They could be positioned on opposite sides of a dress or skirt, either side of a shirt or blouse, around a neckline, beside pockets or across the front or back of a jacket.
You can also use just one patch as a statement floral decoration and save the second for another project.
As well as decorating new clothing, embroidered patches are a great choice for upcycling older garments. They can help give a plain or tired item a completely different appearance and may also be suitable for disguising small marks or worn areas where appropriate.
How to Iron On
Before applying the patches with an iron, always check the care instructions for your garment. The material must be able to safely withstand the heat required for application.
Delicate, waterproof, coated, highly elasticated or other heat-sensitive materials may not be suitable for iron-on application. For these fabrics, sewing the patches on is recommended instead.
- Make sure the garment is clean and completely dry before beginning.
- Place the garment on a firm, flat and heat-resistant surface.
- Position each patch carefully and make sure you are happy with its location before applying heat.
- Set your iron to a medium to high temperature suitable for the fabric. Switch the steam function off.
- Cover the entire patch with a thin cotton cloth, pressing cloth or clean tea towel. This prevents the hot iron from making direct contact with the embroidered threads.
- Press the iron firmly onto the covered patch for approximately 20–30 seconds. Rather than moving the iron continuously backwards and forwards, apply steady pressure over the area.
- Where the garment allows, turn it inside out and apply heat to the reverse side of the patch for approximately another 20–30 seconds.
- Leave the garment lying flat and allow the patch and fabric to cool completely before touching or testing the edges.
- Once cool, gently check that all areas of the patch have bonded securely.
- If an edge has not completely attached, replace the protective cloth and carefully apply heat again for a short period.
Iron temperatures and fabrics vary, so the exact application time may need to be adjusted. Avoid excessive heat, as this could damage either the embroidery or the garment.
For clothing that will be washed frequently or subjected to regular wear, adding several small stitches around the edges after ironing can provide extra security.
How to Sew On
The patches can also be sewn directly onto your chosen garment. Sewing is particularly useful for materials that cannot safely be ironed and is a good option when you want a strong, long-lasting attachment.
They can be hand sewn or machine sewn, depending on your preference and the item you are decorating.
Hand Sewing Instructions
- Decide exactly where you would like each patch to sit.
- Secure the patch temporarily with pins, fabric clips or a few temporary stitches to prevent it from moving.
- Choose a thread that matches either the blue embroidered border or the colour of your garment.
- Thread your needle and tie a secure knot in the end of the thread.
- Starting from the reverse side of the garment, carefully sew around the outer embroidered edge of the patch using small, neat stitches.
- Work gradually around the flowers, leaves, stems and curved sections of the design, making sure the narrower areas are also securely attached.
- Once you have worked around the patch, finish on the reverse side of the garment and secure the thread with a firm knot.
- Remove any pins, clips or temporary holding stitches.
For additional security, extra stitches can be added around narrower sections of the floral design where required.
Create Your Own Look
The combination of blue floral embroidery and subtle gold-coloured detailing makes these patches suitable for everything from everyday clothing customisation to dressmaking and decorative craft projects.
Use the pair together to create an attractive symmetrical arrangement, position them at different points on the same garment, or use each patch individually.
They are an easy way to add colour and embroidered detail without having to create an intricate floral design from scratch.
Ideal for sewing, dressmaking, clothing customisation, upcycling, repairs, costumes and creative craft projects, these Blue Flower Patches can give an ordinary piece of fabric an eye-catching new floral finish.
