Pair of Red Flower Patches – Iron On or Sew On Embroidered Floral Appliqués

Transform plain clothing, bags and craft projects with this striking Pair of Red Flower Patches. Featuring an elaborate floral arrangement in rich shades of deep red, burgundy and crimson, finished with contrasting gold embroidered details, these decorative appliqués are designed to create an eye-catching feature wherever they are placed.

Each patch combines a large open flower, an elegant flower bud, pointed leaves, decorative lower foliage and a flowing curved stem. The detailed embroidery gives the design depth and texture, while the darker burgundy sections and brighter red outlines create a beautiful layered appearance.

Supplied as a coordinating pair, the two patches face in opposite directions, making them particularly suitable for symmetrical decoration on clothing and accessories.

Size

You will receive 2 embroidered Red Flower Patches.

Each individual patch measures approximately:

6.9 cm Width × 11.8 cm Height

Their tall floral shape makes them substantial enough to become a noticeable feature on a garment or bag without being excessively large.

Rich Red, Burgundy & Gold Embroidery

These patches feature a sophisticated combination of red tones. Deep burgundy and wine-red sections form much of the flowers and foliage, while brighter crimson-red embroidery defines the outlines and creates additional contrast.

Fine gold-coloured stitching runs through the flower petals, leaves and decorative lower sections. Against the dark red background, these small golden accents stand out beautifully and emphasise the intricate shapes within the design.

The combination of red and gold gives the appliqués a rich decorative appearance that works particularly well against black, white, cream, grey and denim fabrics, as well as coordinating with other warm colours.

Intricate Rose-Inspired Floral Design

At the centre of each appliqué is a large open rose-style flower, constructed from multiple embroidered layers. Curving inner petals create depth within the flower, while the scalloped outer petals are highlighted with fine gold stitching.

Above the main flower is a smaller upright flower bud surrounded by pointed leaves. Additional leaves spread out around the central flower, creating a full botanical arrangement rather than a simple isolated bloom.

At the bottom of the design, embroidered leaf-like shapes and sweeping stems provide an elegant finish and help give each patch its distinctive elongated silhouette.

Open spaces have deliberately been incorporated between some of the flowers, stems and leaves. Once applied, the colour of the garment or fabric beneath will show through these areas, helping the appliqué become part of the overall design.

Opposite-Facing Pair for Symmetrical Designs

A particularly useful feature of this set is that the two floral appliqués are designed to face in opposite directions.

This makes them ideal for creating balanced, symmetrical arrangements. Position one on either side of a garment, pocket, bag or other textile project for an attractive mirrored effect.

Alternatively, the patches can be separated and used individually on completely different projects.

They could be positioned:

  • On either side of a denim or fabric jacket
  • Above or alongside pockets
  • On jeans or trousers
  • On the front or back of a shirt
  • Near the hem of a skirt or dress
  • On opposite corners of a tote bag
  • On handbags or backpacks
  • Around a neckline
  • On fabric cushion covers
  • On handmade textile projects
  • As part of a larger floral appliqué arrangement

Give Plain Clothes a New Look

These embroidered flowers offer an easy way to customise clothing without completely altering the original garment.

A plain denim jacket, pair of jeans, shirt, top, skirt or dress can be transformed by adding one or both patches. The rich red colour looks especially striking against classic blue or black denim.

They are also useful for creative upcycling projects. Instead of discarding an older piece of clothing simply because it looks plain or dated, adding decorative embroidery can give it an entirely different character.

Depending on the location and size of the area, an appliqué may also be useful for decorating over a small worn area, mark or previous stitching.

Perfect for Bags & Craft Projects

These floral appliqués aren't limited to clothing. Their detailed design makes them equally suitable for a wide range of sewing and craft ideas.

Add them to tote bags, fabric handbags, backpacks, purses, fabric storage items, cushion covers or handmade accessories. They can also become part of textile art, costume making, sewing projects and other decorative crafts.

For a more elaborate creation, combine the red flowers with lace, ribbon, beads, additional patches or decorative hand stitching.

Because two matching appliqués are supplied, you could even create a coordinated set – for example, adding one patch to a jacket and the second to a matching bag.

How to Iron On

Always check the garment's care label before using an iron. Heat-sensitive, waterproof, coated or delicate materials may not be suitable for iron-on application and should be sewn instead.

1. Prepare the garment: Make sure the fabric is clean and completely dry. Lay it on a firm, flat, heat-resistant surface.

2. Position the patch: Place the appliqué exactly where you would like it. When using both patches together, arrange the complete pair first so you can check the spacing and symmetry before attaching either one.

3. Prepare your iron: Use a suitable medium-to-high heat setting for the fabric and switch off the steam.

4. Protect the embroidery: Cover the entire patch with a thin cotton cloth, pressing cloth or clean tea towel. Do not place the hot iron directly onto the embroidered surface.

5. Apply heat and pressure: Press firmly over the covered patch for approximately 20–30 seconds. Rather than continuously moving the iron around, concentrate on applying steady pressure.

6. Press from the reverse: Where possible, turn the garment inside out and apply heat to the reverse side for approximately another 20–30 seconds.

7. Leave to cool: Allow the patch and garment to cool completely before checking the bond.

8. Check the edges: Gently inspect the outer edges. If any section has not bonded properly, cover it again and apply additional heat for a short period.

Iron temperatures and fabrics vary, so these timings are a general guide. Always use a temperature appropriate for the garment being decorated.

How to Sew On

Sewing provides an excellent alternative when the fabric cannot safely be ironed and can also provide extra durability for frequently worn or washed items.

Position the patch where required and temporarily secure it using pins or suitable fabric clips.

Using a thread colour that blends with the red or burgundy edging, sew small, neat stitches around the outer contours of the appliqué. Follow the shapes of the flowers, leaves and stems rather than simply stitching around the patch in a rectangular shape.

Pay particular attention to the pointed leaves, narrow stems and smaller outer sections, making sure these areas are firmly secured to the fabric.

Once you have worked around the necessary edges, securely fasten the thread on the reverse.

For thick materials such as denim or canvas bags, use a needle suitable for heavier fabric.

Iron On Then Sew for Extra Security

For suitable fabrics, the two methods can also be combined.

Iron the patch into position first, allow it to cool completely and then add several stitches around the outer edges. This is particularly useful for jackets, jeans, trousers, bags and frequently worn clothing, where the patch may experience more movement.

It also makes sewing easier because the appliqué is already held in the correct position.

Care After Application

Once attached, wash and care for the item according to the instructions on the original garment.

Turning decorated clothing inside out before washing can help reduce unnecessary rubbing against the embroidered surface. Avoid excessively harsh washing or drying wherever possible, and periodically check that the outer edges remain securely attached.
