How to Iron On

Iron-On Instructions

1. Make sure the garment is clean and completely dry before you begin.
2. Place the clothing on a firm, flat and heat-resistant surface.
3. Position the patch exactly where you would like it. When applying both patches, check the position of the complete pair before fixing either one permanently.
4. Set your iron to a medium-to-high heat suitable for the garment and switch off the steam function.
5. Place a thin cotton cloth, pressing cloth or clean tea towel over the patch. This protects the embroidery from direct contact with the iron.
6. Press the iron firmly over the covered patch for approximately 20–30 seconds. Apply steady downward pressure rather than continuously sliding the iron around.
7. Where the garment allows, turn it inside out and press the reverse side for approximately another 20–30 seconds.
8. Leave the garment flat until the patch and fabric have cooled completely.
9. Once cool, gently check around the edges to make sure the patch has bonded securely.
10. If any section remains loose, cover the patch again and carefully apply additional heat for a short period.

Different irons and fabrics respond differently to heat, so application times may vary.

For clothing such as jeans and jackets that will receive frequent wear or washing, we recommend adding a few stitches around the patch after ironing for additional security.

How to Sew On

Sewing is an excellent alternative to ironing and can provide an especially strong attachment on denim and frequently worn garments.

It is also the preferred method for any material that cannot safely be exposed to the heat of an iron.

The patches can be attached by hand or with a suitable sewing machine.

Hand Sewing Instructions

1. Decide exactly where you want the patch positioned.
2. Hold it temporarily in place with pins, fabric clips or a few loose stitches.
3. Choose a thread colour that blends with the red embroidered border or with the garment underneath.
4. Thread a suitable needle and tie a knot at the end of the thread.
5. Start from the reverse side of the fabric so the knot remains hidden.
6. Sew small, neat stitches around the outer embroidered edge.
7. Follow the contours of the flowers, leaves and narrower sections so the entire patch sits securely against the garment.
8. Continue around the design until there are no loose or raised areas.
9. Finish on the inside of the garment and tie the thread securely.
10. Remove any temporary pins or holding stitches.

If sewing onto thick jeans or a heavy denim jacket, a strong needle designed for denim or heavyweight fabric may make application easier.
